Our Faith

The jealous deity that Abraham worshiped demanded utter servility and constant sacrifice.

Egalitarian and individualistic, Jesus was convinced that God is an approachable and forgiving Father. He distilled the Torah and its Mosaic commandments into a simple message of love.

Medieval colorations and claims, which helped to carry His message through the centuries, must now be reconciled with advancing knowledge.

Expressing our Christian faith in a way which is consistent with the insights of the natural sciences is just as valid today as the priestly and dogmatic form of the religion was before the western Enlightenment.

Simone Weil said roughly a century ago "Christ likes us to prefer truth to him because, before being Christ, he is truth. If one turns aside from him to go toward the truth, one will not go far before falling into his arms."

A detailed system of beliefs and rituals is not necessary.

I accept as Christian anyone who wishes to integrate the teachings and example of Jesus into their life.

Galatians 3:28 New King James Version

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

1 John 4:16 New King James Version

And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.
